Authentic Thai food in Fairfield? Really?
Yes, indeed, thanks to Nattima Sonsoem and the folks at the newly opened Thai Kit, located at 222c Post Road. The restaurant is bringing authentic Thai cuisine to Fairfield and is doing it in a relaxed, casual atmosphere with meticulous attention to detail.
“We love this location,” explained the co-owner whose grand opening was December 1st. “It’s a good size for the restaurant we wanted, it is located in between two trains stations (Fairfield and Fairfield Metro) and we are seeing a lot of traffic as this is a busy area.”
Thai Kit also received a boost from its grand opening celebrations, an event sponsored by the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce that featured First Selectman Mike Tetreau and his famous pair of oversized scissors. Once Tetreau cut the ribbon, Thai Kit was ready to roll and Nattima Sonsoem could not have been more pleased.
“Since the ribbon cutting and the story that went out over the internet, we have seen an uptick in customers,” she noted. “We have had a lot of people who heard about the event who just wanted to try us and see what we are all about.”
The location in Fairfield also serves as a halfway point in terms of commuting. Nattima recently received her MBA from the University of New Haven and lives in New Haven and her partner lives in Stamford, making the Fairfield location desirable for both of them.
To celebrate their opening, the owners are offering a “Grand Opening Special,” which includes a free appetizer and a free dessert. There is also a daily lunch special at Thai Kit. For only $9.95, patrons can dig into a sumptuous meal that includes an appetizer, an entrée and a dessert.
There are many choices available at the restaurant for fans of Thai food. The entrees run the gamut from seafood to curry dishes to vegetarian to chicken to duck to….well, just about anything one can imagine. There are also daily specials available.
“Many people think of Thai food as being very hot, but that’s not the case,” explained the New Haven resident. “Authentic Thai food is spicy with delicious spices but it is not necessarily hot. Every dish is different but they certainly are not all hot.”
The Chicken Lemongrass is one of Thai Kit’s many special dishes and a delightful medley of crispy chicken, red onion, bell pepper, scallion and lemongrass. Among the bistro’s other specialty dishes are mango chicken, lime chili chicken, basil eggplant, sambal okra and chili tofu.
Thai Kit has a full service bar and features beers imported from Thailand and many crafty cocktails. There is a daily happy hour also, with many drink specials on tap in a relaxed atmosphere.
When asked what she most wanted with her new restaurant Nattima Sonsoem replied, “I just want people to come and try our food and enjoy it. I want them to taste real Thai cuisine.”
